Preparation of the cover
To create your personalised cover, get the above-mentioned materials;
using the inner dimensions of the books you wish to coat (diaries,
address books or organizers) as your starting point, you will
use the following formula to calculate the required dimensions
and borders:
- For the 2 covers made out of hardboard:
H = height of the book + 6-10mm depending on its size (at the
end of the work the cover will stick out of the glued book from
a minimum of 3 mm to a maximum of 5 mm on three sides).
- For the spine made out of light Bristol board
H = the same of the already cut covers
L = the same thickness of the book spine
- For the decoration paper of the cover
H = height of the 2 already cut covers + 30mm (15mm for each
margin to be folded)
L = width of the 2 boards + width of the spine + 36 mm (15 mm
right edge + board + 3 mm space + spine + 3 mm space + board
+ 15 mm left edge).
Making the cover
Lay the coating paper back to front on a flat surface, square
it using the given formula, then glue the whole surface of the
paper;

position the hardboard cover (leaving 15 mm on the three external
sides), then the spine followed by the board (please do not forget
to leave enough space between the spine and the boards to allow
for a correct opening of the cased book).

Cut the four corners of the paper, leaving 1 mm distance from
the corner of the hardboard panel,

flap the paper borders towards the inside of every side of the
cover, beginning with the long ones (upper and lower) and then
flapping the short ones (right and left sides).

Verify that there are no air bubbles on the external side of the
cover; if necessary, remove them by exercising a circular movement
with a soft cloth.

Try to slide the book into the cover to check that your measures
are right and see that there is enough folding space left for
the 3 external sides that you can then leave for the casing phase.
Casing phase of the book in the already made cover
Scatter the glue on the last side of the book and put it on
the right side of the cover, positioning it at equidistance of
all external sides (as during the trial).

Repeat the same operation for the first side.

Finally, put the BOOK you have made under a press (for example
under a heavy book) for twelve hours.
